Hello you, I'm April!
I grew up in Arizona. I love playing in the Arizona snow though spring and autumn are my most favorite kind of weathers. I was even born in the same hospital as Stevie Nicks. I always thought this was such a weird/cool fact. I have also seen people get struck by lightning near Tucson, which is not such a cool fact.
I have a degree in Theatre Performance. I have been acting off and on since 1993 when I first participated in our 3rd grade class production of Christopher Columbus. Now whether that's a legitimate play or not, I'm not sure, but the songs about the three ships Christopher borrowed from Spain's King and Queen were so catchy and fun that I didn't even care. In 5th grade, I directed and created backdrops for a play from a book and doll series I loved called American Girl. Looking back, I can't believe our teacher would let my friends and I skip class for an hour to rehearse. It was sweet. In high school, I took one or two drama classes, nothing major. Then in 2005, I decided to make Theatre my college major. Given a few breaks from acting here and there to pursue photography and other hobbies to develop a more well-rounded personality, Theatre is the backdrop and motivator to everything I do.
Vegan
Why did I become vegan? I don't like having beef with other comedians.
My path to veganism was not initially motivated by animal welfare at all. Back in 2005 to 2007 I had been feeling awful, unhealthy, lethargic and I knew some things had to change. I nixed milk and soon nixed meat completely. I noticed I only liked the things meat were marinated in anyway. I instantly had more energy and my self-diagnosed depression lifted a little tiny bit. I mean, I still had my ups and downs, but going vegetarian made life feel more free.
Flash forward to 2012, I commenced my own Vegan Week where I tried veganism for one week just to see if I could do it. On Instagram, I read a post about milk cows and the veal industry and how the calves are taken from their mother's almost immediately. That alone changed me for some reason. Vegan Week was a success. Perhaps because I had started this journey gradually back 2007 by going vegetarian. All I had to do go vegan was to stop eating milk chocolate, honey, and dairy cheese. And I did it. Since May 2013, I have been completely vegan. Never in my life did I ever think this would happen. I never thought I'd be a crazy person. To make matters worse, I even went gluten-free AND vegan for about 2 years. I'm no celiac, but I wanted to see if I could do it. And to see how boujee I could be.
About This Blog
This blog is mainly about my adventures as a vegan comedian, actor, improviser, and comedy writer.
And yes, I used to change my hair quite a bit whenever life got stagnant. But I keep it consistent now for acting gigs. (Blonde/Strawberry Blonde.)
❤️ April
